Dr. Strangehaze (The Finale)

And yet again, here we are for the Season 3 Finale of Bois & Bar Talk. For episode 20, we drink Dr. Strangehaze by Brewery Legitimus. It’s been another roller coaster ride throughout the season and our beer collection is piling up.

Dr. Strangehaze is a New England style IPA from Brewery Legitimus out of New Hartford, Connecticut. It has an ABV of 6.5% with some classic juicy flavor. According to the can description, Legitimus states the beer has, “A hefty whirlpool addition and generous dry hopping are key to helping the Citra and Mosaic shine. Intense aroma and flavors of tropical citrus will hit you immediately. Brewed with flaked oats for a silky mouthfeel and a beautiful hazy glow”.

You’ll see on UNTAPPD that people generally like it rating it 4 out of 5 stars on average. People say Dr. Strangehaze isn’t that bitter and has a smooth flavor.

How We Rated Dr. Strangehaze

The Bois enjoyed the drink as well. We thought it’s an NEIPA on par with other good ones here in Connecticut. It’s juicy and does have some smooth mouthfeel that they described. We overall would drink one again if we seen it at the package store or at the bar. Very solid but nothing that stands apart from the great beer in Connecticut.

Rob’s Rating: 6.3/10

Kev’s Rating: 6.8/10

Dr. Strangehaze Show Notes

We kick off the show reminding everyone to check out the website Boisandbartalk.com to check out all of our episode posts. We do show notes and ratings for every beer and every episode.

During the episode we gave our usual state of the address for Bois & Bar Talk. We are happy with the progress of the show and appreciate everybody for the support. The last couple years have been phenomenal. Whether you listen, engage with us on social media, or even click on a link, we thank you. We’re going to regroup and brainstorm for some Season 4 improvements. We are always trying to get better!

It was a fast paced episode but we didn’t spend too much time recapping the season. Kev brought up the infamous foot fetish. Do foot doctors have a real passion for feet? Do you have to like feet to become a foot doctor? This brought us to talking about hands right after.

Could you snap your fingers without hitting your palm? Snapping your fingers is actually snapping your palm! Trying this live was mind-blowing to Kev especially and we took a solid minute snapping fingers (or palms). We also talked about correctly posing for photos. Did you ever think about why a picture pose with your arms down looks so bad?

Is Podcasting Worth it in 2021? - Bois & Bar Talk

https://boisandbartalk.com/2021/04/is-podcasting-worth-it/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=is-podcasting-worth-it

Is Podcasting Worth it in 2021?

Podcasts have taken a stand amongst the array of digital content and have reached record popularity. Not to mention, it’s only growing in both content and listeners every day! If you pull a random topic off the top of your head, it’s likely that someone out there made a show about it. This may make you wonder, is podcasting worth it in 2021?

Our daily lives focus on technology, digital content, ease of access. We could connect to others in meaningful ways with convenience. The good news is running a podcast is easily accessible and low-risk. At the same time, podcasting has plenty of benefits even though it’s low risk. For anybody wanting to start a podcast, we’re here to share these benefits with you from our experience running the Bois & Bar Talk podcast three years in.

Easy Start-Up

Typically, starting a new hobby or pursuing a business venture requires funding that many people may not have available or feel they cannot justify. More upfront costs and monthly costs are a quick reason that will deter us from even starting.

A wonderful benefit of running a podcast in 2021 is the ease of access. Being honest, there are ways you can pay which will make your process smoother. Paying for your podcast cover art or opting for a paid premium hosting plan does make your podcast startup easier. But all of these costs are minimal ($30 for the artwork for us and $15 per month using Libsyn hosting). All of these are optional costs. You could even use free hosting providers such as Anchor if your budget is low.

When first taking the step to start a podcast, you can begin your journey using standards features on your smartphone or computer. There are easy upgrades that existing or new podcasters can make for their equipment, such as microphones for podcasting hosting, ranging from as little as $50-$100.

From our experience we use one Blue Yeti Microphone ($130) for the two of us. As time went on, we slowly invested in lights and camera upgrades because we prefer to do video as well. However, you could even use Apple headphones and your phone to make a podcast in 2021.

Creative Expression

The creative expression alone makes podcasting worthwhile. The possibilities of content creation that podcasters can pursue are endless. Think about podcasting as a new form of movies, TV shows, and books. It truly is just another form of creative entertainment.

So far in 2021, more than 50% of American households are familiar with podcasts. The people that listen to podcasts typically check out more than 6 shows on average. It’s a real form of entertainment that’s convenient enough to listen on your daily commute.

You have the option to create a podcast based around a topic you’re passionate about. You can also focus entertaining your audience with comedy and stories. Here in Connecticut, we love beer and were fascinated with the amount of breweries that sprouted up over the last few years. We jumped into the beer niche, but we also dedicate the show to improvised conversation with each other.

As lifelong friends, we provide our audience with a relaxed show that feels like they are right there with us. Your expression is totally up to and podcasts give you the power to shape your show into anything you’d like. Now is the perfect time to share your passion and give value whether its’ entertainment or information.

Multiple Pathways to Profit

Whether the goal is to start a podcast as an enjoyable hobby or to create a business, you can make money with podcasts. The main ways podcasters benefit financially from their efforts are running ads, working with sponsors, or starting a Patreon. It is easier than ever to optimize advertisements and sponsors to the intended audience, increasing your podcasts’ profitability.

If your show is small, you definitely shouldn’t be discouraged! You will have some loyal listeners who want to support you no matter what. It’s always important to show your listeners how much you care. This will make your Patreon pitch easier which helps you get monthly income from your dedicated fans.

When were starting out, we also sent cold emails to the breweries in the area asking for some free beer or merchandise for sponsorships. We were shocked to see how many breweries were willing to help. For newer shows try thinking outside the box for ways you can collaborate with people related to your niche as well. Even if it’s not profit, anything helps in the beginning!

It is possible to make merchandise, digital products, or membership programs for dedicated audience members. It opens the door for you to stay true to yourself and create items that excite you.

Building a Community

Apart from providing financial and creative outlets, podcasters benefit from building a community or “family” of people who share similar interests and passions. People are craving ways to feel a connection to others outside of their immediate circle, especially in 2021, and podcasts can fill the hole. This sense of community is beneficial for the creator and the audience. Developing a sense of community can drive passion and provide a sense of purpose that will flow into the content creation process and potentially other parts of your life.

All in all, it is easy to see that podcasting is far worth it in 2021. The world of digital content will only continue to expand as podcasts grow in popularity. The best way to determine the true worth of podcasting is to take steps to ensure that you and your podcast are taking advantage of the opportunities that the world of podcasting has to offer.

For anybody that wants to learn more, Rob and Kev from Bois & Bar Talk are always here to talk and give some pointers. Feel free to get in touch with us or check out the show to see how we do it!

Ice Cream Man II - Bois & Bar Talk

Today, on the 19th episode of Bois & Bar Talk we are drinking Ice Cream Man by Backeast Brewing Company. We’ll call this part 2 since we originally had this drink during season 1 (for all you long-time listeners out there).

Ice Cream Man is an IPA brewed with citra hops out of Bloomfield, CT. It pours a nice hazy orange color similar to orange juice in a glass. The aroma is ripe and fruity meant to resemble a creamsicle, but you can also taste the sweet citrus hops off the bat.

Overall, we think it’s a special drink that is still pretty limited over here in Connecticut. Anytime we see it on tap, at local bars, or on sale in the store it’s delightful to see. Almost always worth a buy just to stash it at least. It holds up well when it comes to drinking again as we don’t really get sick of the flavor over time.

How we rated Ice Cream Man

Rob’s Rating: 8.5/10

Kev’s Rating: 8.6/10

Ice Cream Man Show Notes

We kick off the show reminding everyone to check out the website Boisandbartalk.com to check out all of our episode posts. We do show notes and ratings for every beer and every episode.

During Ice Cream Man II, we kicked off the episode doing our typical rating and review of this sweet IPA. We followed by talking about the current state of the United States and how vaccines may impact us in the future. Will we be restricted if we aren’t vaccinated? Cruise Lines are already making requirements that include a vaccination in order to board.

Kev brought up a random would you rather on the fly. Would you rather know when you are going to die or how? It’s a tough question actually uncomfortable to think about! Rob revealed that he could hardly tie his shoes, and we jumped to the astounding process of tattooing nipples. We wrap up the show with how you dry your hands in public bathrooms and then, somehow, we got to sweatpants, dick prints, and perfect position penis days! The beauty of improv is you truly never know where the show will go.

Rise - Bois & Bar Talk

Today, on the 17th episode of Bois & Bar Talk we are drinking Rise by Whalers Brewing Company.

Rise is an APA that packs its own unique flavor from Rhode Island. It pours in a white 12 oz can, featuring the signature whale on the front. The aroma is glassy and you can taste the sweet hops behind this APA. Rise also has a pale yellow color with a foamy white head. Overall, Rise has this certain freshness to it. It has some hops, while providing hints of citrus, pine, and spice. It has a good amount of carbonation making this a very balanced beer to have.

How we rated Rise

Rob’s Rating: 7/10

Kev’s Rating: 8.2/10

Rise Show Notes

We kick off the show reminding everyone to check out the website Boisandbartalk.com to check out all of our episode posts. We do show notes and ratings for every beer and every episode.

Starting off this episode, we covered what we call “the outrage era” that we are currently living in. Everybody from music artists to historical figures are being cancelled over condoning toxic culture. We broke down each generation including Boomers, Generation X, Millennials, and Generation Z. Each generation is classified by age group and we compared the tendencies of them.

Shortly after, we dug into the TikTok trend where people eat wings together and cover themselves in wing sauce. They dap each other up which makes viewers (including ourselves) unforgettable to look at. Somehow this transitioned us into talking about egging cars. Everybody thinks about how bad egging cars are, but what if somebody cracked eggs inside your gas tank? It would be super undermining. Somehow, we spend the last five minutes of the episode trying to answer the question, are there birds that are also mammals? Tune in to find out!

Julius - Bois & Bar Talk

Today on the 16th episode of Bois & Bar Talk we are drinking Julius (Our 4th Treehouse beer this season).

The first thing we discussed was the comparison to King Julius which we did earlier in the season and what was the actual difference between the two. A source on Reddit.com made it pretty simple by just explaining that King Julius was just a double IPA version of Julius. King Julius is 8.2% while Julius is only 6.4%.

Treehouse.com describes Julius as an IPA “bursting with fresh hand selected American hops. Julius is a bright, juicy beer filled with flavors and aromas of mango, peach, passionfruit, and a melange of citrus juice. A soft, pillowy mouthfeel and rounded bitterness ensure it will never tire the palate. Loaded with immense flavors as a result of years of focused brewing application and judicious use of the freshest hand selected hops, Julius is a delicious Tree House IPA that is a true joy to drink time and time again”.

The Bois couldn’t get enough of it…

How we rated Julius

Rob’s Rating: 9.6/10

Kev’s Rating: 9.7/10

Julius Show Notes

We kick off the show reminding everyone to check out the website Boisandbartalk.com to check out all of our episode posts. We do show notes and ratings for every beer and every episode.

Following that we get into Minimum Wage and whether it should be raised or not, but also we try to keep an open mind to other solutions and not getting tunnel vision on just one. Then we go into the “College Experience”. Is the experience of college worth more than the education itself?

Somehow we circled into roundabouts (no pun intended) and driving in general. Shoutout to all the safe drivers that are annoyed with the ignorant ones!

Finally the episode ends with Kev talking about the Saw movie series. He explains the worst test he has seen while rewatching all seven movies. So, you’re welcome for all the nightmares!

Very Hazy - Bois & Bar Talk

Drink Of The Week

Today on the 15th episode of season 3 we are drinking Very Hazy from the infamous Treehouse Brewing Co. out of Charlton, Mass.

Very Hazy, on Treehousebrew.com, is described as:

“Very Hazy is a Double IPA designed to push the flavor profile of Haze to the limit of hop saturation and intensity while never becoming abrasive or burdensome to the palate.

In spite of an enormous hop dose in both the kettle and dry hop, Very Hazy morphs into a beer that is somehow softer and more well rounded than its double IPA counterpart.

We taste and smell peach rings, orange juice, and tropical fruit bubblegum yeast esters enveloped by a velvety, smooth body. This is a double IPA we find pleasurable to drink by the glass – it improves and evolves as it is allow to warm and aerate in your tulip.”

How We Rated Very Hazy

Rob’s Rating: 8.4/10

Kev’s Rating: 7.9/10

Very Hazy Show Notes

The Bois skipped right over discussing Very Hazy and got right into it this episode! After a two week hiatus Rob & Kev explain the reason(s) for the gap in episodes. Rob kicks off the episode with a gripe with Mcdonalds. When did they change the price of a Mcdouble to $3!

Why are people mad at Brady for getting drunk because he won his seventh Super Bowl? Get a life and let the man live. Following that, we talk about actually documenting our life progress with the podcast and what will we say about our hangovers at 35.

Do you think the mob has taken precautions to protect “the boss” from Covid-19? I could see Pauly not allowing anyone to come close to tony without a mask. You have to protect the head of the family!

Finally, they finish off the episode talking about online dating and being completely unfocused and lazy about it. Kev one time asked a girl to go out with him and after she agreed, he decided to bail because she lived too far away.

Second Hand - Bois & Bar Talk

Drink Of The Week

Today on the 14th episode of season 3 we are drinking Second Hand brewed by Clocktown Brewing Company out of Thomaston, CT.

Second Hand is described on Clocktown’s website as a straw-colored, hazy NEIPA with the juicy aromas and notes of citrus and tropical fruit. Bitterness is soft and plays in the background.

How We Rated Very Green

Rob’s Rating: 7.8/10

Kev’s Rating: 7.0/10

Second Hand Show Notes

After The Bois discussed Second Hand, Rob decided to pull up an article on The 50 States and what they’re known for. Arkansas is literally known for Bill Clinton and Bill Clinton only, they got nothing going on…. Rob compares California to pinching off a poop, and Connecticut is pot hole central.

Do the great people of Idaho ever get tired of being known for potatoes? How good is “Deep Dish” pizza really? Iowa is mostly known for its cornfields, 2.5 Billion bushels of corn a year. How much is a bushel? What state do you think is most known for Nascar? Do people really refer to the “Ass” as a “Buttox”?

We finalize the episode with a speed round as we ran out of time per usual. Ending on the smelly state New Jersey. Of course we had to talk about the famous New Jersey sports teams and how much they all suck! Rob even mentions the Nets who are actually good now, probably due to the fact they are no longer in New Jersey.

Very Green - Bois & Bar Talk

Drink Of The Week

Today on the 13th episode of season 3 we are drinking Very Green by the notorious brewery TreeHouse Brewing Co. out of Charlton MA.

Very Green is described on Beeradvocate.com as a Double IPA that is created with a massive kettle charge of Australian and American hops. It opens in the glass with huge notes of ripe pineapple, pithy citrus, and dank saturated hops. As it warms it shows its depth and complexity. . . Sweet hints of malt intermingle with straight Tropicana. It has a soft but pointed bitterness and a rich, velvety mouth feel.

How We Rated Very Green

Rob’s Rating: 9.4/10

Kev’s Rating: 9.1/10

Very Green Show Notes

The Bois start off the show discussing getting drunk and blacking out…. terrible time 0/10 recommend. We segue to going to the casino and gambling. Rob shares a story about his recent experience at the casino this past month (he fell asleep in a closet). Then we move on to the most coveted job in America, the “Bathroom Attendant”. Mostly seen in upscale clubs and fancy restaurants the bathroom attendant is the most respected person in the venue.

Following that, we go into guys tanning and whether or not we should be tanning our entire bodies head to toe….Somehow we take a leap and get into Saints Row and the benefits of insurance fraud as a homeless person. Finally we finish up the episode actually discussing podcasts and whether or not we actually listen to them ourselves.

King Julius - Bois & Bar Talk

Drink Of The Week

Today on the 12th episode of Season 3 on the Bois & Bar Talk podcast, the Drink Of The Week is King Julius By Treehouse Brewing Co. out of Charlton, MA.

King Julius is described on the can as an exceptionally flavorful juicy and hop saturated beer without rough edges or abrasiveness. In our opinion, it is exactly that. Currently our highest rated beer on the show King Julius is everything it is hyped up to be. At 8.2% ABV you cannot find another beer that tastes as juicy as King Julius.

How We Rated King Julius

Rob’s Rating: 9.7/10

Kev’s Rating: 9.2/10

King Julius Show Notes

We start off the episode of course, by completely dissecting King Julius. Following that we somehow got into talking about personal hygiene such as how many times we brush our teeth per day, flossing, and ya know the obvious, missing the toilet bowl when peeing at the bar. Rob talks about his first experience with an electric toothbrush. Are they more effective than a regular old toothbrush? Meanwhile, Kev stated that he never received a single cavity in his life.

We then ask the question, have you ever sat when you peed? ( Dont lie, you have…)

The Bois aren’t known for having much facial hair, so we also raised the question of beard hygiene. How often does food get stuck in beards? Is it worth looking like a manly man if your beard is nasty?

We finish off the episode talking about good ole football and fantasy. Rob came in 3rd this year in our league while Kev went all the way to the finals just to finish in 2nd! With the Eagles out of the playoff picture, the Football Team now has a shot at the playoffs!

Drink Of The Week

Today on the eleventh episode of Season 3 on the Bois & Bar Talk podcast, the Drink Of The Week is Ho Ho Hope For The Kids by CTs own Counterweight Brewing Co. out of Hamden, CT.

Beeradvocate.com describes this beer as a holiday spin on No Hope for the Kids. The biggest difference is a portion of the can sales will be donated to a different youth charity in New Haven each year! Dry hopped with a blend of Columbus, Mosaic, and Simcoe, this version lends bright grapefruit aromas with distinct stone fruit and pine flavors.

How We Rated Ho Ho Hope For The Kids

Rob’s Rating: 8.4/10

Kev’s Rating: 7.6/10

HH Hope For The Kids Show Notes

The Bois kick off the episode by discussing our favorite holidays. Rob with a solid pick of The 4th of July, while Kev went with the cliche Christmas. Following, we go in to the pressure of the holiday season all the way up until Valentines Day!

Next we go into our favorite Christmas memory as a child. It has to be about a gift right? Also has anyone ever mentioned the in between period being a young adult where nobody wants any gifts from you?” A very confusing time… The Bois wrap up the episode by discussing our favorite Christmas movies of all time.

PS. Any Charlie Brown holiday movie should be aired on TV every year for the rest of eternity. It should not be able to be monopolized to one streaming service its an absolute ABOMINATION!

Chocolate Truffle Stout - Bois & Bar Talk

Drink Of The Week

Today on the tenth episode of Season 3 on the Bois & Bar Talk podcast, the Drink Of The Week is Chocolate Truffle Stout by Hamden, CTs own Thomas Hooker Brewing Co.

Beer Advocate describes this beer as a “sweet stout that is made in collaboration with Connecticut’s favorite chocolatier, Munson’s Chocolate(Avon, CT). Copious amounts of oat malt produce a silky, full bodied beer laced with hints of roast and chocolate derived from dark malts. Each sip ends with a mild chocolate bitterness from Munson’s proprietary cocoa powder, added generously to the brew. To round out this beer, we add several pounds of cocoa nibs at the end of fermentation to provide a fresh chocolate aroma.

How We Rated Chocolate Truffle Stout

Rob’s Rating: 6.9/10

Kev’s Rating: 6.9/10

Chocolate Truffle Stout Show Notes

On the 10th episode of Season 3 we celebrated our 50th total episode two years into the process. We get into the holiday spirit while drinking a Chocolate Truffle Stout thinking it was a festive choice. We touched on some of the best and worst Christmas presents we would receive during our childhood while also referencing reddit for some other experiences.

It wouldn’t be right if we didn’t get side tracked and take a X rated turn during this special holiday edition episode touching on subjects not meant for adolescent ears! We go into adult gifts exchanged during our recent Secret Santa. Then we go into the value of socks as a present on Christmas.

Choconaut - Bois & Bar Talk

Drink Of The Week

Today on the ninth episode of Season 3 on the Bois & Bar Talk podcast, the Drink Of The Week is Choconaut Imperial Porter by Firefly Hollow Brewing out of Bristol, CT.

Untapped.com describes Choconaut as a dark, full bodied, and seductive, Imperial Porter. Which is brewed with loads of chocolate malt, roasted barley, black, and crystal malts. It has flavors of creamy chocolate, coffee, and dark caramel blended together with a subtle nuttiness of the Ecuadorian Cacao nibs.

How We Rated Choconaut

Rob’s Rating: 8.4/10

Kev’s Rating: 7.6/10

Choconaut Show Notes

On this episode of Bois & Bar Talk we started off by talking about TGE/Thanksgiving and our usual festivities (getting drunk) and what has changed because of the Covid-19 pandemic. We discuss cutting lines for the big TGE events with overwhelming confidence. Then we spoke about our favorite Thanksgiving foods and which ones we actually hate.

Somehow we segued to life goals, and setting up charities/non-profits once a person becomes wealthy enough. Of course we had to bring up the classic Marshawn Lynch video talking to Richard Sherman about giving back to their own communities. We wrap up the show by discussing how, as a successful/wealthy adult, can ride the line of giving to your future children but also not spoiling them rotten. How would you?

Candles Out - Bois & Bar Talk

Drink Of The Week

Today on the eighth episode of Season 3 on the Bois & Bar Talk podcast, the Drink of the week is Candles Out brewed by Charter Oak Brewery located in Danbury, CT. On Charter Oaks website they describe Candles Out as “medium bodied that has a citrus aroma and flavor”. It’s a big NEIPA and is a hazy and hop monster, yet easy drink’r and actually very well balanced”.

Although Charter Oak described it this way, we didn’t really agree and felt that it wasn’t really a true New England IPA compared to others we’ve tasted. It lacked a certain “juicy” flavor that normally comes with the name NEIPA. While it was described as a limited release with strong citrus, we agreed it tasted more like the peel of an orange rather than the juice. Not any disrespect towards Charter Oak, but it was nice trying it. However, we would skip past it next time at the store.

How We Rated Candles Out

Rob’s Rating: 5.7/10

Kev’s Rating: 6.0/10

Candles Out Show Notes

On this episode of Bois & Bar Talk the Bois decided to pull up a tier list and rank different types of cereals. Usually we don’t disagree on much but this tier list got the argument juices flowing. Rob and Kev go back and forth about the ranking positions of Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Captain Crunch, Trix and others. For some reason, many tier lists have S being the best grade over A. We like using this method as well.

Also whats the best way to eat cereal? Dry, Soggy, or a mixture of both? After being side tracked by that argument we had to go into a speed round in the last few minutes of the podcast and we even ran out of time! It was a passionate discussion.

B-Side - Bois & Bar Talk

Drink Of The Week

Today on the seventh episode of Season 3 on the Bois & Bar Talk podcast, the Drink of the week is B-Side crafted by New Britain’s own Alvarium Brewery. According to Alvarium, B-Side utilizes Idaho 7, Azacca, and Simcoe hops for a delicate and multilayered drinking experience. Soft tropical fruit, mango, citrus and pine flavors combined, give B-Side a delightful taste, clocking in at a 4.9% ABV. It’s a sweet blonde ale that we had no problem drinking in the middle of November.

Rob’s Rating: 7.8/10

Kev’s Rating: 8.4/10

How We Rated B-Side

After The Bois rated B-Side, we got into a conversation about bugs and the fear of certain species such as spiders. Arachnophobia is common among people, while some have it worse than others. But what is it that makes spiders so terrifying? We started playing a free game on Game Pass, Grounded on the Xbox One. Grounded is a survival game which is still testing in beta where you play as kids who shrunk themselves (sort of like Honey I Shrunk The Kids). The objective is to survive in the garden, fighting against nature including “giant” ladybugs, ants, and dreaded spiders.

We raised the question: What ever happened to those tiny electrical zaps on the tips of our fingers? In theory, it has to stem from the fact that carpets were left behind in most houses. As kids we used to charge up the shock by rubbing our feet on the carpet and poke somebody else. It’s been completely forgotten about over time.

Heady Topper - Bois & Bar Talk

Drink Of The Week

Today on the sixth episode of Season 3 on the Bois & Bar Talk podcast, the Drink of the Week is Heady Topper (8%) By The Alchemist Brewery. According to The Alchemist, “The beer is meant to give you wave after wave of hoppy goodness on your palate”.

How We Rated Heady Topper

Brew Advocates rating is 100/100 and considers Heady Topper a “world class” beer. Heady Topper, similar to Focal Banger is another heavily coveted beer in our neck of the woods so once we got our hands on it we had to do an episode with it!

Rob’s Rating: 8.1/10

Kev’s Rating: 7.6/10

Heady Topper Show Notes

The Bois missed a week of consistency due to COVID-19 but we bounce back with a “world class” beer. After the ratings we start discussing cooking shows such as “Beat Bobby Flay” and “Cutthroat Kitchen”. After we go into the importance of the service in a restaurant and the pros and cons of trying new dishes.

Then, somehow Kev had a random thought about not paying attention to classes that would teach you how to use important programs such as Excel. Following that we ended up talking about hazing in fraternities and peculiar questions Rob would ask kids attempting to join.

5 Sensational Connecticut Beer Choices to Consider Right Now - Bois & Bar Talk

5 Sensational Connecticut Beer Choices to Consider Right Now

Connecticut now has 110 operating brick-and-mortar breweries across the state. Beer bars, brew pubs, and full-scale breweries have brought more options to our bottles and growlers than ever before. We seemingly have infinite options when it comes to choosing a Connecticut beer. We can enjoy goses, sours, coffee stouts, oatmeal stouts, wild fermented ales, IPAs, double IPAs, and even the occasional milkshake IPA.

Big thanks to the brewmasters, because we’re spoiled when it comes to hyper-local beers. But we’ve managed to whittle it down to a handful of beers that have made a lasting impression on our palates. Not to mention, we made some Connecticut beer choices that haven’t been a part of our Drink of the Week yet on the podcast.

Here are five of the best brews the great state of Connecticut has to offer.

G-Bot – New England Brewing Co.

ABV: 8.5%

STYLE: Double IPA

COLOR: Clear, golden orange.

TASTING NOTES:

Resinous pine

Citrus

Tropical fruits

Slight caramel

Let’s get the controversy out of the way, this Connecticut beer used to be called Gandhi-Bot until lawyers and a little bit of common sense got involved. But don’t let its dramatic past distract from this delicious DIPA. Clocking in at a hearty 8.5% this beer remains surprisingly drinkable with hints of citrus, pineyness, and a subtle tropical aftertaste. G-Bot is a hop-lovers’ dream come true.

What Beer Advocate users say:

“Truly wonderful, basically perfect DIPA.” – MrRB from Connecticut

“A unique and amazingly smooth double IPA.” – Rand_Schoeb from Connecticut

Beer Advocate

About New England Brewing Co.

Since 2003, New England Brewing Co has been pumping out some great Connecticut beers. You’ve probably had or heard of their most famous beer, you know, the one with the cute fat waterfowl on the label. Fuzzy Baby Ducks IPA is their most iconic beer, thanks in part to the name (and the liquid). Don’t let the cute name fool you, it takes some serious brewing chops to make what’s been called one of the country’s best IPAs.

Burst – Fox Farm Brewery

STYLE: IPA – American

ABV: 7%

COLOR: Hazy, orange-gold

TASTING NOTES:

Bright

Juicy

Tropical flavors

Start naming tropical fruits because this bright and juicy American IPA brings them all to mind. Mango, tangerine, pineapple – there’s a reason it’s called Burst. This is a beer that may have well been freshly squeezed. It’s crisp, invigorating, and super sparkly. You’ll never regret having this beer in your glass. Whether you’re a mainstream beer drinker or a connoisseur, this is a non-polarizing enjoyable quaff if there ever was one.

What Beer Advocate users say:

“Good flavor and a brilliant, balanced dankness.” – jrc1093 from Connecticut

“This is fantastic, full of flavor and well balanced.” – digboy from New Hampshire

Beer Advocate

About Fox Farm Brewery

Sitting in the middle of a 30-acre former dairy farm in Salem, Connecticut. Fox Farm Brewery puts an emphasis on sourcing truly local ingredients for their brews which sometimes includes foraging the property. It’s worth the drive out to the farm, especially since they self-distribute, to get your hands on one of their hoppy IPAs or pale ales. On top of the traditional styles, Fox Farm has been experimenting with beers fermented with their house yeast culture.

Chocolate Truffle Stout – Thomas Hooker Brewing Company

STYLE: Stout -Sweet/Milk

ABV: 7.1%

COLOR: Deep, dark espresso

TASTING NOTES:

Dark chocolate

Mocha

Caramel

If you’re from Connecticut and have a sweet tooth, you know Munson’s Chocolate. And Munson’s cocoa powder is what makes Thomas Hooker Brewing’s Chocolate Truffle Stout the perfect dessert beer to end any meal. Each sip finishes with a nice mild chocolatey bitterness that accentuates its sweetness. It drinks smooth like a full-bodied stout should. This is like a liquid chocolate bar in the best of ways. Connecticut beer lovers and chocoholics rejoice!

What Beer Advocate users say:

“I would definitely recommend to any chocolate lover.” – JosephKiley from Connecticut

“It was like liquefied fudge brownies. Wow.” – woodychandler from Pennsylvania

Beer Advocate

About Thomas Hooker Brewing Company

Named after the great colonial founder of Hartford, Rev. Thomas Hooker (1586-1687), the namesake brewing company has earned a national reputation by consistently brewing some superior beers. Headquartered in Bloomfield Connecticut, you may be familiar with their American IPA that shares a name with an Instagram hashtag – #NOFILTER. They’ve got a rotating list of beers with a focus on small-batch brewing.

Void Oatmeal Stout – Counter Weight Brewing Company

Style: Oatmeal Stout

ABV: 7%

COLOR: Deep, dark brown

TASTING NOTES:

Coffee

Chocolate

Roasted malt

Who says dark beers are just for winter? Counter Weight Brewing’s Void Oatmeal Stout is such an easy-sipping stout (despite clocking in at 7%) that you’ll want to enjoy it all year long. With every sip you’ll get a nice long, lingering finish. It just nails that almost-coffee, almost-chocolate flavor. If you like an oatmeal stout, this is the oatmeal stout for you.

What Beer Advocate users say:

“Find me a better 7% non-aged oatmeal stout.” – BababooeyHTJ from Connecticut

“This is a rich and fairly robust stout that is also fairly easy to consume.” – suldaddy from Connecticut

Beer Advocate

About Counterweight Brewing Company

Located in Hamden, for the time being, Counterweight is in the process of breaking ground and building a new from-the-ground-up brewery in Cheshire. The brewers at Counterweight are all about exploration, they’ve been known to experiment with wild yeast and wood aging, while they’re constantly evolving on the basics. With these guys, you’ll get everything from sturdy German lagers, rustic Belgian alges, and pretty much everything in between.

Tempus – OEC Brewing Co.

Style: Sour

ABV: 5.9%

COLOR: Light, sunny golden.

TASTING NOTES:

Tart

Bitter orange

Oak

Sour beers shifted from beyond trendy to becoming fixtures at most breweries. And beers like Tempus at OEC Brewing Co. is a big reason why. Inspired by old-school Germanic beer-making traditions this beer is left out in the open so wild yeast can discover the brew and give it that mouth-watering sourness that we all love. When those wild yeasties do their thing, the result is a nice mellow sour that’s the perfect introduction to anyone new to sours. As far as flavour notes go, think bitter orange, oakiness, and a real pleasant tartness that makes your lips pucker.

What Beer Advocate users say:

“This is world class and I would drink a ton of this.” – Sheppard from Virginia

“It has an excellent, even classic funk.” – LAp from Ohio

Beer Advocate

About OEC Brewing Co.

First off, what does the OEC stand for? Ordinem Ecentrici Coctores, it’s a Latin phrase that kind of, sort of means “The Order of the Eccentric Boilers.” If the name doesn’t give it away, this brewery has a bent for the experimental. They’re pushing the boundaries of craft beer with their innovative blend of sour-leaning beers. Take Experimentalis a special series of beers that lets the brewery run wild featuring fresh fruit grown on the OEC Brewing property and then aged in oak barrels. Who knew that Oxford, Connecticut would be home to what’s been called “North America’s Most Innovative Craft Brewer”.

Focal Banger - Bois & Bar Talk

Drink Of The Week

Today on the fifth episode of Season 3 on the Bois & Bar Talk podcast, the Drink of the Week is Focal Banger By The Alchemist Brewery. According to The Alchemist, “They strive to offer the best hop experience that they can”. The beer is brewed with mosaic and citra hops, contains 7% ABV.

How We Rated Focal Banger

Brew Advocates rating is 100/100 and considers Focal Banger a “world class” beer. Focal Banger is a heavily coveted beer in the New England area and is actually hard to come by. We decided that although we would not travel across state lines to pick up the beer, if the opportunity presents itself we would most definitely purchase again. (Even though Kev would consider other options first).

Rob’s Rating: 8.9/10

Kev’s Rating: 7.8/10

Focal Banger Show Notes

After rating Focal Banger, we started discussing “body shaming” via the internet due to Billie Eilish trending on twitter. The fact that whatever you post no matter who you are there will always be someone to comment negatively. No matter how famous you are, you will be scrutinized.

Following that we segue into random ads that appear on our devices and social media sites almost immediately after we engage in some kind of activity with the product. Somewhat after that we somehow get to discussing the proper order, (as a guy) on washing yourself in the shower. However, we couldn’t end this episode without talking about our “once in a lifetime” experience with an Uber driver.

Passion Fruit Gose - Bois & Bar Talk

The Drink of the Week

Today on the fourth episode of Season 3 on the Bois & Bar Talk podcast, the Drink of the Week is Passion Fruit Gose by Two Roads Brewing Co. According to Two Road’s official website description, Passion Fruit Gose has, “A nose of BIG tropical fruit, the taste is of light wheat and a perfect harmony of tartness and sweet fruit”. This unique ale is also brewed in their tanker truck trailer.

How We Rated Passion Fruit Gose

Both of us admitted we aren’t experienced in the sour game of drinks although we want to break into them more. We agree that sours are an acquired taste but with a 5.2% ABV, it wasn’t an overpowering ale. It was a drink different from what we were used to but wasn’t too bitter on the back end. We both decided that we would drink it again.

Rob’s Rating: 6.5/10

Kev’s Rating: 6.7/10

Episode 4 Show Notes

We expanded on personalities from episode 3 after rating our drink. Both Rob and Kev took a personality test and actually had the same personality out of 16 types (ENFP). It’s a personality type with vibrant energy and loves to find deeper meaning in just about anything. We both live a life without structure and do actions based on how we are feeling in the moment. We’ll link the website where you can take the free test. You find out a lot about yourself.

We also touched on the process of manifestation and whether we think it’s real or not. It’s common for people to visualize what they want in life and claim it works. Overall we think simply writing down your goals is a powerful method of manifestation. Kev shared his take since he always writes and records music. Not only writing is powerful, but listening to his voice back through a song gives him a strong visualization of the things he wants in life.

All Together - Bois & Bar Talk

Today, on the third episode of Season 3 on the Bois & Bar Talk podcast, the Drink of the Week is All Together by Stony Creek Brewery out of Branford, CT. All Together is an American style IPA with a 6.5% ABV. It smells of grapefruit and oranges with a golden amber color. After tasting, we noticed the bitter grape flavor and weren’t the biggest fans of this one. However, we give All Together credit because it actually had a special purpose and campaign designed to support both business and hospitality workers struggling during the pandemic.

All Together Campaign

The All Together drink is actually a cost effective recipe created by Other Half Brewing made to be a global collaboration among breweries. The All Together campaign invites all breweries to use the recipe, name, and artwork to raise awareness for local hospitality workers in their respective communities. The campaign also requests that a portion of proceeds go directly to hospitality workers. The low cost recipe is designed to help breweries weather the storm while business slowly returns to normal. Over 800+ breweries participated in the campaign.

Our Rating

Overall Rob gave this low cost Stony Creek Version a 5.7 out of 10. Kev gave a rating of 4.2. While we weren’t crazy about the grapefruit taste, we’re still happy to share the special story and glad we gave it a shot.

Kev finally watched The Last Dance documentary series made in 2020 revolving around Michael Jordan’s final season with the Bulls. The documentary focuses on the championship run during the unforgettable 97-98 season. We talked about the intense mentality of Jordan that ignited the rest of the entire franchise. We also point out that Jordan’s competitors enjoy feeding into his legacy. They enjoy sharing stories of getting beat by the greatest basketball player of all time.

Other topics of episode 3 include discussing the lack of personality on professional networking platform LinkedIn and talking about Introverts/Extraverts.

Crucial Mass - Bois & Bar Talk

Today on the second episode of Season 3 of the Bois & Bar Talk podcast, the Drink of the Week is Crucial Mass by Counterweight Brewing. According to Counterweight’s website description of Crucial Mass, “Ripened mangos, passionfruit, and a touch of grapefruit dominate the nose, with a subtly sweet malt backbone to support the big explosive hop flavors”. It’s a popular American IPA, and also one of their most popular drinks to get.

Overall, Rob rated this beer an 8.7 out of 10 which was higher than Kev’s rating of 7.1. For an 8% ABV, it is definitely a smooth beer to taste. On this episode we opened up talking about Uber driver stories and a summer get away trip. We quickly transitioned to the new release of only NFL simulation game on the market, Madden 21. EA Sports has been facing a lot of criticism for not making enough changes to the annually released game.

We went to the Microsoft store and started reading all of the Madden reviews from upset gamers. The official user rating was something around 1.7 stars out of 5. The reviews were absurd, bashing the game and the developers without a good review in sight. It was reading these off without trying to laugh. We are both big gamers and football fans if you didn’t already know. Of course we like some more quality changes in future Madden games.

High Noon - Bois & Bar Talk

After two months off, Bois & Bar Talk is finally here for season 3! Join us for episode one featuring the Drink of the Week – High Noon. During this episode, we introduce you to yet another new studio setup. We did this by turning the camera 180 degrees and basically flipped our whole studio around. We have a shelf in the back, so this season we will be collecting all of our “Drink of the Week” choices. The break was much needed, but we’re excited to reconnect with you and get some good laughs this season.

High Noons are a pretty rare drink to find, at least where we are in Connecticut. They are another trendy seltzer drink, but High Noons are particular better than most. Directly from their website it describes High Noon as, “Made with real vodka, real juice, and sparkling water”.

We had some fun getting back to Bois & Bar Talk and gave you a few updates on what we were doing this summer during our break. Kev’s 26th birthday also just passed so Rob hit him with lightening questions to answer. Kev had the chance to reflect on what it means to be 26 years old.

For one of the improvements in season 3, we created a Patreon. With Patreon you can support us financially so we can at least break even on our expenses, expand faster, and keep exploring new drinks. We are offering some cool bonus content and features in return. We even plan on giving free hats to our supporters after a few months. Big shout out to Darren, Brooke, Mike, and Meg for being our first supporters!

Overall, we hope you enjoy this season 3 debut episode and it’s always fun to be back.

Cheers!

CT Style Finale – Bois & Bar Talk

Episode 20 of the Bois & Bar Talk podcast marks the finale of Season 2. It has been a long 7 month journey since the season beginning last January. It seems like just yesterday we were shivering in our newly built set in Kev’s basement in the dead of winter. At last we have arrived at the end and we present to you, our finale featuring The Drink of the Week: CT Style Juicy IPA by Black Hog Brewing Co.

CT Style nails what Connecticut represents, which is a juicy and hazy looking beverage. It is a solid 6.2% ABV and if you enjoy New England style beers we recommend this drink. We had to throw in a celebratory shot of Patron to mark the end of an era.

Of course we came into this episode with a ton of energy and ran it completely improvised. We could never run out of things to say when we reflect on our adventure over the past year. We learn more about ourselves and about the Bois & Bar Talk community everyday. Building Bois & Bar Talk into what it is today has been more than we could ever expect at this point. And for that, we appreciate you for the ongoing support every day that motivates us to keep building, and keep connecting with each supporter.

Getting Better

We are thrilled to announce some new merchandise in the form of fresh hats with our logo printed on them in various colors. If you would like a hat just contact us and we can get one out to you (we don’t have an online store yet). Our goal is always to keep building and keep getting better. We plan to work on a patreon platform to expand Bois & Bar Talk while we take a break from podcasting. In the meantime, stay up to date and feel free to message us on Instagram and Twitter!

We can’t thank you enough for the support, and we will be back better than ever.

Supernaut - Bois & Bar Talk

Supernaut - Bois & Bar Talk

https://boisandbartalk.com/2020/06/supernaut/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=supernaut

Supernaut

On episode 19 of the Bois & Bar Talk podcast, the Drink of the Week is Supernaut by New England Brewing Co. out of Woodbridge, Connecticut. According to beeradvocate, this American IPA scored a 96 out of 100. It has a 5.8% ABV has a fruity flavor with hints of pineapple and mixed berries. We could taste the Mosaic hops and bitterness, but it was also a crisp drink to have. Supernaut has a golden color with a large white head and pours nice.

Preparations for episodes during hot days in June usually include running a large fan in our small recording studio cooling down as much as possible. Once the fan is off and we hit record, it feels as if we are on the clock before sweat begins. It feels like an oven slowly preheating until after our 30 minute episode when we are tapped out from pure heat.

Typically, we don’t have a direction with our crammed episodes. We kicked off talking about how people sun bathe as a hobby at the expense of their health and without proper hydration. Somehow this turned into a conversation about eggs and dipping sauces.

Surprisingly, we haven’t talked about our stock trading addictions on the show. We ranted about the thrill of penny stocks and the mental stress that it brings. After that, we mentioned pests like fruit flies and mosquitos up north, compared to lizards in the south. Not to mention, northern people move much faster than anybody in the south.

Lastly, Rob talked about his weekend Florida trip and what it was like to board a plane with COVID-19 rules. The mask rules nowadays are definitely confusing to follow for every different place.

Yeah we know, our episodes are all over the place man.

Anyways, if you like this episode feel free to check out the previous one on Bois & Bar Talk.

Cheers!

I like this song coming after Can I because its a deep vibe but the production is BIG and segues to the next song nicely. Listen to this song here. Freddie Gibbs God Is Perfect Here we go the moment Ive been waiting for. Freddie Gibbs is an absolute MONSTER. His whole album Alfredo slaps. This is my second favorite joint off of the album (the top pick comes later). Now my energy through the roof lets keep going. Listen to this song here. Beam Unda Armor I randomly found this song about a month or two ago forgot about it remembered it now its on in my car all the time. If you have subs in your car you need to put this one on immediately. Beam floats now we turnt up! Listen to this song here. Big Sean Moves Lets just keep the party bouncing. This song came out a couple years ago but it still slaps. Big Seans ability to ride a beat is unmatched 99 of the game and this is the proof. Listen to this song here. Meek Mill Otherside of America With the BLM movement protesting looting and rioting going on in the country right now. Meek Mill decided to give us his own take in a song. Its actually hard the beat is crazy and Meek spazzes. Love to see it. Listen to this song here. Lil Yachty (Feat. Asap Rocky amp; Tyler The Creator T.D. Tokyo Drift sample is an A. I mostly like this song for the Asap amp; Tyler features. They spazz. Dope song overall. I didnt really listen to the whole album but this song stood out to me and Ive been rocking to it. Listen to this song here. Pop Smoke (Feat. Rowdy Rebel) Make It Rain REST IN PEACE POP SMOKE. THIS SHIT GOES HARD AND IM TIGHT SOMEONE KILLED POP SMOKE. FUCK YOU!!!!!!!!! Listen to this song here. Freddie Gibbs (Feat. Benny The Butcher) Frank Lucas This is hands down the hardest record in the streets right now. Alchemist murdered this beat and Freddie revived it and killed it again and Benny The Butcher was the getaway driver. Meanface the whole entire song. Listen to this song here. Lets Chat. Freddie Gibbs The Alchemist - Alfredo Album Walkthrough - Bois Bar Talk

Freddie Gibbs amp; The Alchemist - Alfredo Album Walkthrough - Bois amp; Bar Talkhttps://boisandbartalk.com/2020/06/freddie-gibbs-the-alchemist-alfredo-album-walkthrough/?utm_source=rssamp;utm_medium=rssamp;utm_campaign=freddie-gibbs-the-alchemist-alfredo-album-walkthrough Freddie Gibbs amp; The Alchemist Alfredo Album Walkthrough Introduction Freddie Gibbs amp; The Alchemist released Alfredo on May 29th 2020. I was first introduced too Freddie with his release of Bandana accompanied by producer MadLib. I loved it and became a fan instantly. His nostalgic sound cocaine lyrics and his vast variety of flows over legendary The Alchemist production on Alfredo is exactly what we needed for 2020. 1985 Freddie starts the album by straight SURFING on a guitar sample for about a minute thirty straight on the intro 1985. We get about 30 seconds into the album and we have our first cocaine reference this is exactly what I came for. GANGSTA GIBBS! Listen to this song here. God Is Perfect God Is Perfect is perfect. Gibbs stretches his voice and finds an invisible pocket on this one. He changes his flow seemingly every four bars and each flow takes on a new direction you wouldnt expect. Alchemist is a genius for this instrumental. The song ends with a minute long earthy breakdown with a sample of Biz Markie saying Kane smoked em. I really wanna find the source of this sample. I assume Biz is talking about Big Daddy Kane but he never TRULY had beef withanyone. Listen to this song here. Scottie Beam Scottie Beam features a verse from Rick Ross and I cant lie I love it when Ross just spits. The production screams 2010-2011 Maybach Music but is fine-tuned for 2020. Gibbs has this ability to be able to speak extremely deeply but also talk the most shit in the same verse. From castrating someone in their feelings on instagram to describing an altercation with the police and being racially profiled. ALL IN THE SAME VERSE. Listen to this song here. Look At Me The Alchemist breaks down a sample from a group called The Moments from their song Look At Me (Im In Love). The song is okay at best. Freddie obviously spazzes which is no surprise because he slaughters everything but there isnt much to it besides the sample. Its alright. Listen to this song here. I SWEAR TO GOD IT HAPPENS LIKE THIS ALL THE TIME! Frank Lucas Right after I feel like a song was weak the artist hits me with something FIRE. Frank Lucas has got to be the highlight of the album. Fuck Rap Bitch Im Poppin Off Of Poppy Seeds Frank Lucas production is out of this world. Mean face gt;:/ the entire song start to finish. I could write an entire other blog post just on the bars from this song alone. I love when I discover a new artist by hearing a feature from them first. Benny The Butcher is NICE and he holds his weight next to Gibbs. I didnt expect to like his verse as much as I do. This is on the top of my playlist. Listen to this song here. Something To Rap About I was never a crazy big Tyler The Creator fan but the dude is no doubt an absolute genius. Something To Rap About is a perfect fit and I love what he did with his time. I expected Tyler to have an outrageous half on/half off type of flow and he delivered. I can never complain about Freddies rapping ability as it seems to grow with every verse he spits. You would think this soft sample mixed with Gibbs street persona wouldnt cooperate but it works effortlessly. Listen to this song here. Baby $hit Rabbit potty trainin every mornin ho Im cookin dope and cleanin baby shit Rabbit being the nickname Freddie has given his 1 year old son makes this line all too literal. Hes taking care of his son while cooking dope. Whether the dope is music or actual DOPE I cant say but ya know I like the record. Again Gibbs hits us with multiple flow switches and hard bars and it never gets old. Listen to this song here. Babies and Fools Each verse on Babies and Fools is a different type of story.. you love to see it. The production is relaxed with a cool sample but nothing crazy. Obviously the lyrics are the focus of this piece Gibbs and Conway execute with perfection. The stories vary from women selling coke and of course the come up. Listen to this song here. Skinny Suge Straight BARS. This could be one of my favorite songs on the album. For the first couple listens I recommend you read along to the lyrics because Freddies spittin. He really showcases his storytelling abilities in this one. Its all about his come up his sacrifices and choices hes made over the years to make it. Listen to this song here. All Glass All glass is cool. For the outro I honestly expected better. I appreciate that he just went full bars and no hook but nothing really stuck out at me bar wise that would make me go back to listen to it. Listen to this song here. Overview Overall Freddie Gibbs amp; The Alchemist Alfredo is really special. Gibbs exercises lyrical genius throughout the entire album and alongside The Alchemist production Freddie Gibbs puts out another solid album. On my makeshift ranking scale it scores a 64 which is pretty solid but I believe it deserves more. Im working on a new ranking system so it can be as thorough as possible. Download Episode!

Today, we drink Pineapple Love Juice by Labyrinth Brewing Co. This comes at no surprise since this is our fourth beer featured on the show by Labyrinth in season 2. On Episode 18 of the Bois & Bar Talk podcast, we return after a week off out of respect for the movement going on around the world.

Pineapple Love Juice is a New England style IPA with a 6.5% ABV. It has a golden color and our favorite part was that the pineapple was not an overpowering flavor. The hint of pineapple was delightful even through the aftertaste.

We addressed the protesting going on around and showed our support for all that is going on in the beginning. We prefer to stay true to our roots and not get overly political, but is an important problem that needed awareness and we are glad to see changes being made.

That address transitioned into talking about David Goggins and his book Can’t Hurt Me: Master Your Mind and Defy the Odds. Goggins overcame an abusive childhood and had to deal with racism growing up. He learned how to use that to fuel his motivation and make his mind unbreakable, taking on Navy SEAL training three times and running ultra (100+ mile) races.

After, we talked about how fast a snack gets eaten as an adult rather than as a child. That somehow led us to talk about snacks in movie theatres and whatever else we crammed in another 30 minute episode.

If you like this one check out Episode 17 here.

Cheers!

Pandemic Community Support: Labyrinth Brewing Co. - Bois Bar Talk

Pandemic Community Support: Labyrinth Brewing Co. - Bois amp; Bar Talkhttps://boisandbartalk.com/2020/06/pandemic-community-support-labyrinth-brewing-co/?utm_source=rssamp;utm_medium=rssamp;utm_campaign=pandemic-community-support-labyrinth-brewing-co Pandemic Community Support: Labyrinth Brewing Co. It took us 18 hours to brew our first beer says Adam Delaura co-founder of Labyrinth Brewing Company out of Manchester CT. Two years later weve got it down to a science our routine has only gotten more efficient. Labyrinth has been hard at work during the COVID-19 pandemic. Similar to their opening day back in August 2018 new systems have to be put in place and mastered in order to adapt. The state of Connecticut ordered all breweries to shut down their taprooms. Adam said that Most of our revenue comes from our taproom. Telling breweries to shut down for several months without any future plan of return leaves everyone in the dark. Breweries like Labyrinth during the pandemic are shifting to take out methods with a limited budget in order to do business with customers. Labyrinth is dependent on a loyal community that has their back. After years of generously giving back to the people and organizations around Manchester The Neighborhood Brewery plans to come back stronger than ever. The Brewhouse Prior to Opening Day The three co-founders Adam Sean and Chris turned a 130 year old building into a home for Labyrinth doing most of the work on their own prior to opening day. They all grew up in Manchester together so they already had an advantage knowing the areas demographic. After a few Youtube tutorials the trio cut down trees with rented chainsaws to clear out the back parking lot. They even recycled the extra wood to build tables. The wonderful hand-crafted tables and glass bottle lights give an authentic feel inside. Not to mention a wonderful art gallery occupies a third of the taproom representing artists in the local community. Labyrinths Art Gallery Labyrinth Gives Back Serving the community means everything to Labyrinth. In one instance Labyrinth understands the mutual benefit of collaborating with food trucks to serve customers in the parking lot Those trucks need all the money they can get to provide for their families said Adam. Labyrinth lets a variety of BBQ taco and pizza trucks operate free of charge. On the other hand Adam said I dont have to worry about food supplies and presentation. Its a win-win situation. Labyrinth has helped a variety of charitable nonprofits such as Oak Hill Food Share Protectors of Animals and Interval House. In 2019 they hosted 29 fundraising events in their tap room and attended 22 off-site fundraising events. they were able to support a total of 63 locally focused organizations. Many breweries were scrambling to adapt when the shutdown happened. Plenty had never canned beer before and wanted to start which caused disruption in the can supply chain. Labyrinth on multiple occasions would borrow from breweries while also lending cans and growlers to others. We were all just trying to help each other out and its a great example of how the brewing industry is a community Adam said. Last October Labyrinth participated in the third annual Barktoberfest dog festival in Manchester as a vendor. The festival brought people and their dogs together to celebrate canines and raise awareness for responsible dog ownership. Labyrinth even hosted an after party event and sold treats for the dogs using recycled grain from leftover products. All of the proceeds were donated to the Manchester Dog Owners Group. Daisy at a MDOG Fundraiser Challenges During the Pandemic During tough times like the COVID-19 pandemic Adam stated that If we did not have the local connection to organizations and charities as well as people in the neighborhood we wouldnt be alive. Labyrinth has thrived since opening day in building relationships with the community rather than primarily focusing on profit. People are making it a point to support local business Adam said. Having no real business plan is just one of several challenges that Labyrinth faces during the pandemic. Before this we could estimate having x amount of sales but how do you do that now? Adam asks as he explains the curbside pickup process. He wasnt sure how to set new operating hours or how to market effectively with limited resources. He wants to look out for his staff more than anything but the current process only needs a few people to operate. On the other hand profit margins are smaller because they need more supplies (cans labels cardboard trays etc.). Transporting the beer also ramps up costs opposed to just serving it in the tap room. Shifting to can distribution has been a challenge. The cancelation of large group gatherings is ruling out keg sales. Meanwhile Labyrinth is used to producing beer in large batches sold during normal taproom hours. Once its brewed it can take weeks of maintenance Adam said when explaining the brew process. Three weeks is a more typical time frame for many of the beers we brew canning the beer is the easy part. Responding only to curbside orders makes it difficult to plan for demand each week with such an operation. Adapting to the Shutdown With a new beer take-out system in place Curbside Pickup is surprisingly a success so far. When I arrived in the parking lot the staff were setting up a clothed table held down in improvised fashion with bricks in boxes. Afterwards the beer orders are set on the table for pickup throughout the day. Labyrinth is even taking take-out one step further by offering home delivery using their own vehicles to satisfy customer demand. Fifteen home delivery orders went out on the first day as customers show their amazing support to keep Labyrinth alive. The extra effort Labyrinth has been putting in to sell beer has Adam working up to sixteen hours a day. Despite tough times Labyrinth is still making it a point to connect with their customers and community. They had to think creatively to engage with people but events such as Virtual Happy Hour and Virtual Beer Tasting are some bright spots during the pandemic. Now were bringing it to you Adam said. Both events utilize popular video communications platform Zoom where up to 100 people can be together for free. The events are organized and promoted through social media. Virtual Beer Tasting 4-Pack Virtual Beer Tasting works by buying a $20 ticket that gets customers a mixed four pack of beer for pick up during curbside hours in the parking lot. An email invitation is then sent to join the Zoom video session. Labyrinth guides you through the beers flavors ingredients and answers any question you may have in a relaxed conversation. Adam understands that when business starts to open up customers may think twice before leaving their homes and stopping in for a drink. We just want everybody to feel safe Adam said. General upgrades as well as safety improvements include (pictures below): Refinishing the main bar top. Repainting the restrooms Installing touchless paper towel and soap dispensers Adding hand sanitizer dispensers Baby changing stations in the restrooms Adding climate control to the restrooms (prior to this it would get super cold in there during the winter) Building a small patio outdoors (social distancing) Making a Difference Together COVID-19 undoubtedly has caused one of the worst economic shakeups in the history of the United States. With many small businesses struggling with their backs against the wall its crucial to adapt in order to stay open. Its fascinating to see people come together and support the businesses they are committed to. Labyrinth didnt have to focus on helping others more than building profit over the years but they did anyway. Customers line up beer orders on a daily basis because they want Labyrinth to be open. They understand how much the brewery benefits the neighborhood. Labyrinth takes great pride in being located right in the middle of a neighborhood. One of the greatest gifts one can give is making a positive difference around you. Helping one another during a time in need can encourage others to follow suit. During difficult times its just a neighbor helping another neighbor at the end of the day. If you enjoyed my content feel free to check out our podcast as we drink Labyrinth beer on episode 17. Champion of the Sun - Bois Bar Talk

Champion of the Sun - Bois amp; Bar Talkhttps://boisandbartalk.com/2020/05/champion-of-the-sun/?utm_source=rssamp;utm_medium=rssamp;utm_campaign=champion-of-the-sun Champion of the Sun Download Episode! Today we drink Champion of the Sun by Labyrinth Brewing Company. On Episode 17 of Bois amp; Bar Talk we are in the home stretch of season 2 that we will cap off at 20 episodes like last season. With a 6.8 ABV Champion of the Sun is surprisingly light and sweet. This New England style IPA has a traditionally hazy look with a citrus refreshing flavor. As always we love working with Labyrinth who generously donated some new beers for us to try. First we talked about clothes that just dont fit right. Sometimes a medium sized shirt could be too long short or has too much room on the collar. As we mature we notice how our clothing preferences change over time. Back when we were in high school cargo shorts were a go to and baggy clothes are simply not trending like they used to be. We never really dress nicely for podcast episodes. Recording is all about comfort and plus it gets really hot when we record. At the end of the day nothing is better than throwing on a regular white t shirt. Its cool to see Avatar: The Last Airbender on Netflix. Revisiting one of our favorite childhood shows is nostalgic and we pick up on things we normally wouldnt as a kid. Avatar has a pretty deep meaning behind episodes and it aged nicely. Lastly we talked about a parallel universe theory in which time travels backwards. While we are no scientists we talk about the endless possibilities that the parallel universe theory offers. Rick amp; Morty does a great job of incorporating different universes in a hilarious fashion. This led us to talk about whether we would rather visit the past or the future. We had different opinions on this one but we definitely needed more than a 30 minute episode to get our points across. Enjoy this episode of Bois amp; Bar Talk and feel free to check out the previous episode.Cheers from the Bois! The post Champion of the Sun appeared first on Bois amp; Bar Talk.

Dead by Daylight Guide: Tips and Thoughts - Bois Bar Talk

Dead by Daylight Guide: Tips and Thoughts - Bois amp; Bar Talkhttps://boisandbartalk.com/2020/05/dead-by-daylight-guide-tips-and-thoughts/?utm_source=rssamp;utm_medium=rssamp;utm_campaign=dead-by-daylight-guide-tips-and-thoughts Dead by Daylight Guide: Tips and Thoughts I didnt expect myself to like Dead by Daylight as much as I did. I have spent over 100 hours playing it because I was drawn to how competitive it can get. My Dead by Daylight guide includes tips for the rank system survivor/killer gameplay perks and my thoughts on the game. (I play on Xbox One). Dead by Daylight consists of four survivors working together against a single killer. The objective of the survivors is to repair five generators spread out throughout the map. Once the generators are powered on they must find an exit gate to power on and finally escape. The objective of the killer is to hunt down each survivor and put them on one of many hooks throughout the map. This is known as the Sacrifice Process. Customization amp; DLC Most characters are locked from the start requiring Dead by Daylights in-game currencies iridescent shards and auric cells to buy them. Iridescent shards can be earned by progressing your general rank through the game. The only good way to earn them is by trading your time playing. Not to mention its massively time consuming to buy a single locked character (9000 shards) or a premium skin (up to 21000 shards). Auric Cells on the other hand are the way to go if you have money to spend and assuming you dont have an issue with microtransactions. Auric cells can only be bought with real money (e.g. 2250 auric cells for $19.99 on Microsofts store). Im usually against microtransactions but it is somewhat justified because of the licensed characters Dead by Daylight offers from popular movies and shows such as Stranger Things Halloween Texas Chainsaw Massacre etc. Most of the skins are really cool but be prepared to spend $20 for a few premium ones. Changing Factors Having a set plan in Dead by Daylight is proven to be difficult because of how much changes from each match. When starting out the game makes you feel uneasy and confused to replicate a sense of terror and suspense while being hunted. As a killer youre challenged to use mind games and tracking abilities to put constant pressure on desperate survivors. A variety of factors keep you on your toes such as: 14 different realms to play in Different variations of most realms (change in map layouts) Changing structures hatch and generator locations 21 survivors 14 killers 146 survivor perks 66 killer perks Many items add-ons and offerings for use An unlimited combination of these factors provides you with a new experience that changes with each match. Most factors being unknown to you until the game begins such as the map and the strengths and weaknesses of your opponent will surely throw a wrench in any plan you had waiting for a game. Ranking System Dead by Daylight surprisingly does a great job of keeping the game fresh with no story mode and one multiplayer matchmaking mode. It has multiple ranking systems that make it worth countless hours of grinding. Specific Character Level Rank up specific characters by playing ranked games and taking advantage of daily challenges and trackable challenges that you can choose to gain Bloodpoints. Bloodpoints are used to level up whichever characters you use for both survivors and killers. Each level is equipped with a bundle of item add-ons offerings and most importantly perks. Once you level up that specific character to level 35 40 and 45 their specific perks become teachable. Teachable perks can be equipped by other characters for unique perk combinations. Spending Bloodpoints in Feng Mins Bloodweb Survivor/Killer Rank Dead by Daylight also includes a skill based ranking system that starts at level 20 (for both survivor and killer rank). The highest level you can achieve here for a season is level 1 and colored in red. Rank is determined by how many pips you get in each game. Points are rewarded at the end of the game for these four categories based on your performance as a survivor: Lightbringer (Objective): Cleansing totems opening exit gates generator repairs and being chased while others repair generators Unbroken (Survival): Escaping the trial without being downed Benevolent (Altruism): Remaining unhooked safely unhooking other survivors healing teammates taking a hit while a teammate is being carried and helping a teammate wiggle free while being carried by a killer Evader (Boldness): Remaining undetected while the killer is in close proximity escaping a chase and dropping a pallet to stun the killer You also have these four categories based on your performance as a killer: Gatekeeper (Deviousness): Points are given for time that generators are incomplete Devout (Sacrifice): Eliminating Survivors Malicious (Brutality): Hurting interrupting downing and hooking survivors Chaser (Hunting): Chasing survivors and winning that chase with a hit You will be given an emblem for each category including none (the worst) bronze silver gold or red (the best). Survivor Post Game Performance General Player Level A general level strictly for time played and experience points. This level ties survivor and killer experience together and gives players a level from 1 to 100 (I know complicated at first). Iridescent shards are awarded each time players level up. Quick Survival Tips Sprinting leaves temporary scratch marks that killers will track you with Terror Radius is your heartbeat that gets louder/faster when the killer is close by Hide in lockers for a quick hiding spot typically near generators Holding down the sprint button while entering lockers vaulting windows/pallets will give the killer a visual cue of your location Skill checks will pop up randomly when repairing/healing and if failed will alert the killer Skill checks look like a needle moving clockwise in a dial stop the needle in the highlighted area If you die during the trial you will lose any equipped items Use a well timed pallet drop to stun in the killer in a chase Cleansing totems can weaken a killer depending on their loadout Plan ahead and space out completed generator locations Survivor Overview As you queue up in matchmaking as a survivor a haunting acoustic guitar riff plays in the waiting lobby giving me a sense of hopelessness before I fight for my survival. Evasive Perks I started with survivor Nea Karlson because of her evasive maneuvers. Specific perks for Nea include Balanced Landing and Urban Evasion. Balanced Landing gives you the ability to drop from a fall and get a three second sprint burst cooling down after one minute. Urban Evasion offers a faster moving crouch speed. You can quickly wrap around trees and boulders using the turbo crouch and preventing yourself from a chase. When creating space from a killer in a chase Dance With Me comes in handy which disables scratch marks for a few seconds after vaulting an object. If Im out of sight it forces the killer to guess which way I went rather than using visual tracks. Stealth and evasion will always be my favorite playing style because of my love for the Metal Gear Solid franchise and its sneaky mechanics. Tracking/Support Perks I consider Spine Chill essential and still havent taken it off since I discovered it. This perk will alert me when the killer is walking in my direction and in most cases before my terror radius is going off. If Im working on a generator this buys me a few extra seconds to crouch into a hiding spot thinking about my next move while killers inspect the generator. Some other notable tracking perks can be used including Dark Sense which highlights the killer for a few seconds after a generator is completed and Kindred that reveals everybody in the game for a short period of time when a survivor is hooked. Altruistic Perks If you would like to go with a more altruistic build try equipping a med-kit for faster healing and using some of my favorite perks like Borrowed Time or Well Make It. Borrowed Time is a Bill Overbeck perk used by daring players who have no problem putting others before themselves. When unhooking a survivor within the killers terror radius the Borrowed Time effect applies to the rescued person allowing them to absorb an extra hit that would normally put them down again for 20 seconds (Tier 3 version of the perk). Some killers may hook a survivor and camp there waiting for teammates to come in for the rescue. This spoils most of the game and makes it anti-climatic. Theres no chase if youre repairing generators and nobody wants to sit on a hook with no hope of surviving. This is where Borrowed Time can come in handy for a thrilling save. Well Make It will reward a player for unhooking a survivor. After unhooking a teammate healing speed is much faster for up to 90 seconds letting you rack up Benevolent points quickly as you chase that red emblem. Objective Perks I do my best to waste absolutely no time in a match so I wanted to use an objective based perk to boost my efficiency. Look for Dwight Fairfield who I leveledup just to make Prove Thyself teachable to all my characters that boosts generator repair speed up to 15 when working cooperatively. Equip a toolbox for your item slot to boost repair speed temporarily. If you would like to relentlessly work on generators you will occasionally have to do so when injured. Look for perks like Iron Will Resilience and Dead Hard that activate when hurt so you can remain efficient while you work. Bold Perks Some days when I play I just want to be bold and look for trouble early in matches. If you live for the thrill of being chased and being a distraction consider some of these bold perks to use. Sprint Burst gives you 150 running speed for 3 seconds (Tier 3 is a 40 second exhausted cooldown) that comes in handy when the killer is closing distance on you. Decisive Strike gives you the ability to stab the killer thus freeing yourself from the killers grasp after being unhooked. Take a flashlight with you to blind the killer and force them to drop a carried teammate on their shoulder. Its a pretty difficult tactic but plenty of boldness points will be awarded. Killer Tips Keep an eye out for bothered crows that give away survivor locations Keep an eye out for an escape hatch on the floor that you can close later in the trial Listen for generators that get noisier when repair progression is made Listen for nearby injured survivors that cry in pain and look for blood trails If you use hex perks protect your hex totems Prioritize your middle generators to make your patrol easier If youre using too much time looping one survivor move on When carrying a survivor pay attention to others with a toolbox that may sabotage the hook near you If you hook somebody move on you will lose time and points for camping Killer Overview Queuing up as a killer immediately turns the tides from survivor to killer as a badass metal riff plays fueling your motivation to hunt down others. Killers feel true power with the ability to dictate the pace of the game. Every killer is vastly unique from each other that includes different base moving speeds weapons aggression and abilities. Its difficult to stick to one killer when Dead by Daylight offers popular yet infamous characters like Freddy Krueger Michael Myers Scream and several others. Even original game characters like Hillbilly Nurse and The Hagare well crafted with sweet abilities and horrific design. Nurse Loadout Screen Trap Killers I kicked off my journey as a predator playing as a trap character; The Hag uses set traps on the ground that activate a clone to pop up and jump scare the survivors who step on them. If Hag is in close enough distance she can teleport to the triggered trap location and quickly close in for a strike. Alternatively you can use The Trapper who sets bear traps to primarily take down victims. Both characters could use traps to cut off loops while creating pressure around hooks and generators. Trap killers require patience and clever trap placements to dominate. I like using Ruin for trappers which accelerates generator repair regression when they arent being worked on. Sneaky Killers If you prefer to take a sneaky approach to hunting check out The Shape (Michael Myers) The Pig The Ghostface (Scream) and The Wraith to stalk and jump-scare survivors. Scream and Myers build up power by stalking survivors and gain one shot down capabilities. You can take stalking one step further with both Scream and Pig by crouching to remain undetected. The Wraith has his own unique cloaking ability which is most useful to sneak up and interrupt survivors working on generators or healing teammates. Take a look at perks like Discordance that highlights generators when two or more survivors are repairing or Nurses Calling that highlights survivors who are healing each other to cause disruption with stealth. Ranged Killers Having trouble closing out a chase while other pesky survivors have you in a loop? A ranged killer could be perfect for your playstyle. The Deathslinger carries a speargun that could shoot up to distances of 18 meters. He reels victims impaled with a chain and goes in for the melee applying a Deep Wound effect (gives survivors a bleed out timer until mended). The Huntress prefers throwing hatchets for her weapon of choice. She starts the trial with 5 hatchets and can refill them at lockers. The Plague doesnt use weapons but attacks survivors with Vile Purge; a vomit with range up to 13 meters that infects them. Vile Purge can be upgraded to Corrupt Purge which will injure them when hit. I suggest perks like Monitor amp; Abuse that reduces killer terror radius before a chase as well as increasing first person field of view. Corrupt Intervention will block the three generators furthest from you at the start of the trial for up to 120 seconds. Cutting down the size of the map will force survivors to play into your range making it difficult to dodge your distant attacks. Rush-down Killers If youre anything like myself as a gamer you love speed and mobility. Rush-down characters like The Nurse The Oni and Hillbilly can patrol distant generators close out chases and can apply tremendous pressure quickly in trials if used correctly. Nurse is a challenging character to use on console compared to PC but can blink (teleport) through obstacles and surprise attack survivors. To offset Nurses strong teleportation ability she has a slow base movement speed and gets fatigued after using blink. Mastering blink is key and without proper skill fatigue will allow survivors to slip out of your view. The Oni feeds his true power off injured survivors. Oni has both an intimidating and large appearance using a long blade for weapon. Blood obs are absorbed to activate the Blood Fury ability enhancing movement speed to nearly 200. Blood Fury increases Onis lunge attack range and could even down those who cross his path in a single blow. Hillbilly uses a chainsaw that charges up after a few seconds with unlimited use. The chainsaw ability gives him a staggering 230 movement speed as he dashes across the map in linear fashion. Similar to Oni his chainsaw downs opponents in one shot. Mastering the chainsaw also takes practice because bumping into objects will take Hillbilly a few seconds to recover. Alternatively he uses a hammer for a basic attack to chase survivors around tight corners. Rush-down characters could use a variety of perks but a popular choice is BBQ amp; Chilli that highlights all distant opponents for 4 seconds after hooking a survivor. Make Your Choice makes a survivor vulnerable to a one shot down when they rescue a teammate from a hook far from you. Improvements Like most games with a tight-knit community Dead by Daylight gets a fair share of complaints about flaws. Passionate people complain about imbalance meta load-outs and exploits caused by opponent behavior. Personally Id choose to improve gameplay mechanics (on console at least). In a game where precision is essential I would love to see small tweaks that make movement striking and rushed actions run smoother. An inconsistent hit-box may cause killers to strike a surface when a survivor is hugging close to the environment. On the flip side survivors may get struck after clearing a window vault in a close chase. Although incorporating first person and third person camera views works they do conflict and cause striking uncertainties occasionally. Final Thoughts Overall I could easily get by any flaw Dead by Daylight has. The tension on both sides while playing followed by immediate relief seemingly never gets old. Getting a full experience requires the player to try out new characters and explore their unique perks and abilities. I appreciate Behaviour Interactives effort to keep Dead by Daylight alive and well after almost four years later. New content and chapters continue to expand the already fantastic customization. I left out plenty of survivors killers perks etc. to leave it up to your own discovery. Even with around 100 hours played in the Dead by Daylight I have yet to use a majority of in game content. Its the main reason I continue to replay the game. Only experience helps you learn about your opponent and how to make educated guesses on how to counter them. Putting in hours will reflect your skill and make you stand out as a seasoned veteran. You can give Dead by Daylight a shot on PC Xbox One Playstation 4 Nintendo Switch and Mobile. See for yourself how you like it. I hope you liked my Dead by Daylight guide and embrace the terror robisntreal The post Dead by Daylight Guide: Tips and Thoughts appeared first on Bois amp; Bar Talk.

Kehlani's New Album Should I Listen? - Bois Bar Talk

Kehlani's New Album Should I Listen? - Bois amp; Bar Talkhttps://boisandbartalk.com/2020/05/kehlanis-new-album/?utm_source=rssamp;utm_medium=rssamp;utm_campaign=kehlanis-new-album Kehlanis New Album Should I Listen? It Was Good And Then It Got Better. 1 Kehlanis new album It Was Good Until It Wasnt is the first time Ive taken the time out to listen to her work and Im far from disappointed. Kehlani opens with Toxic and pulls me into the project immediately. Initially I can already get a feel for what to expect for the rest of the album. 2 Kehlani follows up with something special for the grown folks! Can I is fantastic and Tory Lanez elevates the collaboration to another level. Tory finds a pocket that compliments Kehlani in the best way. Their energy matches immaculately you would love to see them collaborate again in the future. 3 Before we get to the first skit Kehlani gives us Bad News. Im honestly having trouble deciding if I actually enjoy this song or just admire the concept. Kehlani is pleading to a lover about giving up the street life to just be with her. That way she doesnt have to live in a constant state of worry or paranoia waiting for the bad news. Skit a short comedy sketch or piece of humorous writing especially a parody. 4 amp; 5 Skits or interludes to me are a lost art in albums. I have an appreciation for them because they have the ability to break up an album really well. Kehlani having Meg The Stallion do a skit on this project is hilarious and appropriate for the following track Water. Water is an attempt at a creative way to correlate sex and astrology its nothing new. Theres a nice bounce to the song but other than that it really doesnt stand out to me. 6 On the other hand Change Your Life is inspiring. I really enjoy hearing this type of perspective in a song written by a female artist especially in Ramp;B. Normally the ability to change a life is a masculine ego trip of shopping sprees eating at fine dining restaurants and impulsive flights to anywhere in the world. Kehlani amp; Jhene Aiko have successfully reversed the stigma with this one. They take the stance of being more than just looks but their intelligence and success in life is the element that can elevate you. Belonging To The Streets Underhand way of saying she is a hoe that participates in hoe activities that involve hoeing herself around like a hoe. 7 Kehlani breaks up the album for a second time with Belong To The Streets Skit. A group of guys talking to a female about another woman (Kehlani). They come to the conclusion that since shes always running around with a different guy she belongs to the streets. This is a perfect segue to the next piece Everybody Business. 8 Besides the gossip and rumors Kehlani still wants to fight for love. Everybody Business is affirmation that she will not be scrutinized for loving so much. She wants her partner/partners to ignore the bullsht they hear in the streets and just be with her in the moment. Everyone that has ever been in a relationship can feel this song. Outside entities can surely ruin relationships and Kehlani highlights that here. One thing that Ive thoroughly enjoyed during the album thus far is the relatable aspect of it. Theres a little something for everyone on here. 9 For example Hate This Club is a story about Kehlani ending up at the club searching for the same person she has been running from. A civil war of emotions erupts as she goes to the club hoping she doesnt see him/her knowing damn well that she will. A classic battle of hating the person you love or loving the person you hate. Missing the person you shouldnt be around but cant help but gravitate towards them. This is the definition of TOXIC. 10 Following Hate this Club you get a super creative song lyrically Serial Lover. I love this concept and I love that she placed it where she did on the project. Were deep enough into the album to have an understanding on the theme but this song just says it. With fluent cadences and clever word play Kehlani openly declares she should be single. Along with the fact that she says she should be single she says plain and simple she plays the game her way and her way only. Although she loves she fcks harder with no regrets. Love that energy. 11 Finally Kehlani gets to the root of all the craziness in toxic relationships with Famp;MU. Obviously Famp;MU stands for fck and make up and Kehlani goes off! She really said Why I gotta fck you up to make you fck like that starting arguments just for better sex. Kehlani might be the first woman to actually admit to starting a fight for this reason Ill have to get some analytics on that later. 12 Therefore Can You Blame Me HAS to be the following song. Kehlani expresses that she would rather argue with her partner than be alone. With a feature from New Orleans artist Lucky Daye the piece becomes whole. Lucky comes in quick does his thing and gets out of there before he overstays his welcome. 13 Differing from the previous music on the album Grieving is a track that gives us a contrasting perspective. Grieving is Kehlanis reflection on a toxic relationship shes fed up being involved in. Although it should be done she can still feel the heartache. I dont know who James Blake is yet but I will this dude is amazing. Whether he speaks on his own experiences or is the persona of Kehlanis other half is unclear but it works. Musically this song is beautiful Grieving could be my new favorite on the album. 14 Before Kehlani wraps up the album she gives us something to think about with Open (Passionate). Kehlani asks the questions of Do I got you way to open to be open?. To me shes asking about her partners insecurities. Is she the type of person to make you vulnerable and are you scared of that quality? Should she also allow herself to become vulnerable when shes not sure that her partner can do the same? The passionate side breaks down and Kehlani floats. She goes for about a minute and a half over a completely different instrumental. Its a subtle switch but a completely different vibe. Her message is almost scratch everything I just said lets undress and forget.fitting. 15 Lexiis Outro is pure inspirational bars by Saint Paul rapper Lexii Alijai. Before today I had never heard of her but I already love her. She spits about overcoming adversity and her personal drive with unrelenting confidence. Time to look her up :). Unfortunately Lexii Alijai passed away on January 1st 2020 due to a drug overdose :( Conclusion Overall I believe Kehlanis new album It Was Good Until It Wasnt is her stage to display her dominance and confidence in not only her music but her personal relationships as well. The concepts and themes behind the album really transform into a fantastic project. Kehlani is not normally an artist I would do a review on or even listen to. Trying to expand my knowledge and appreciation for other genres and artists is my main goal and Im grateful it started here. In my opinion It Was Good Until It Wasnt is a great piece of work. I encourage everyone to go stream the album and form their own opinions and let me know what you think in the comments! Love Kev Clark HD Check out my review of Drakes Dark Night Demo Tape here! Hard Kombucha - Bois Bar Talk

Hard Kombucha - Bois amp; Bar Talkhttps://boisandbartalk.com/2020/05/hard-kombucha/?utm_source=rssamp;utm_medium=rssamp;utm_campaign=hard-kombucha Hard Kombucha Download Episode! On episode 16 of the Bois amp; Bar Talk podcast we feature Hard Kombucha (Ancient Berry flavor) by Flying Embers out of Ventura California. The Drink of the Week: Hard Kombucha (Ancient Berry) On the official website for Flying Embers they describe this flavor as bright and fruity while starring a blend of Elderberries Goji Berries and Raspberries. Hard Kombucha is light and pleasant with a 4.5 ABV only 85 calories and not to mention its both vegan and USDA organic. What makes Flying Embers unique is the deep story told on the can. The origin of the name comes from a Californian wildfire that threatened their home and lab. The makers of this drink combatted the wildfire for days and thus Flying Embers was born. They emphasized gratitude from that point on and incorporate it in all of their products today. It was pretty cool stuff to read right from the can and thought we would share! We actually had a main topic on this episode but before we got to that we talked about Rob tweeting for the first time in 7 years and our ice cream preferences. After that we shifted to the main topic common myths and read about why they are false. We were reading from this list here. One myth says you are not supposed to wake somebody that is sleepwalking. Apparently thats not true and if you do wake them the sleep walker will only be confused. Our own sleep walking stories followed upon reading this one. The myths listed were pretty random much like our show. We found ones like whether there are actually different parts of your tongue that sections your taste whether bulls can actually see the color red and the short three second memory of a goldfish. We learned some pretty cool stuff and hope you enjoy our conversation. If you liked this episode check out our previous one and dont forget to subscribe! Shuggie Otis The Unknown Living Legend - Bois Bar Talk

Shuggie Otis The Unknown Living Legend - Bois amp; Bar Talk https://boisandbartalk.com/2020/05/shuggie-otis/?utm_source=rssamp;utm_medium=rssamp;utm_campaign=shuggie-otis Shuggie Otis The Unknown Living Legend There are artists that I play that werent popular at the time that I play now more than current artists Shuggie Otis I suggest you go look up Shuggie Otis. Jay-Z How Did I Get Here? First Ill start by saying of course I was spending a Monday night in quarantine watching Jay-Z interviews. As a result I stumbled upon an interview Jay had done at I believe Columbia University. Briefly during the interview Hov was expressing that as an artist you have to have this certain knowing. A certain belief in yourself and that what youre creating is the right thing for you. Although it may not work today or tomorrow someday it will be recognized for what it truly is. Who Is Shuggie Otis? Backstage at Manhattans Highline Ballroom on January 10 2013 Jacob Blickenstaff Born on November 30 1953 in Los Angeles California Shuggie became the son of The Godfather of Ramp;B Johnny Otis. Shuggie eventually would grow into his own style and take on his own legacy. Born into the music industry Shuggie started playing the guitar at the age of two. He began performing professionally by the age of 11 with his fathers band. Often Shuggie would have to wear dark shades and a false mustache just to be able to perform in after-hours nightclubs. Otis took inspiration from other artists popular with his generation such as Jimi Hendrix Sly Stone and Arthur Lee. Otis music would later be defined as Psychedelic Soul Funk Rock Jazz Blues and Ramp;B. What should I listen to? Why? Freedom Flight The first album I would recommend listening to is his second studio album Freedom Flight (1971). This album contains the original version of his song Strawberry Letter 23. The Brothers Johnson band covered Strawberry Letter 23 six years later in 1977 for their album Right On Time and went on to peak at 5 on Billboards Top 100 chart. Freedom Flight Album Cover (1971) I hope my boy Shuggie got a check for that! Strawberry Letter 23 is a really dope record. The concept of the song is that a couple is exchanging love letters between each other using music. For instance Shuggie references Strawberry Letter 22 in the chorus instead of the title because Strawberry Letter 23 is his reply. Strawberry Letter 23 is featured in two Quentin Tarantino films Pulp Fiction (1994) and Jackie Brown (1997). John Travolta Pulp Fiction (1994) My favorite song off of this album has to be Sweet Thang. It has sort of a grittiness sound to it. The guitar riff in the chorus punches you directly in the gut. This song can take over you if you let it. Sweet Thang has an addictive bounce with instrumentation that has your ear discovering a fresh element every time you listen to the song. Few songs created in the 70s can really resonate with my generation but this one STICKS. Inspiration Information/Wings Of Love Next I would definitely take a listen to the double CD re-release of Inspiration Information/Wings of love. This is the project that solidifies his legendary status. Inspiration Information/Wings OF Love Album Cover (2013) Originally Inspiration Information was released in 1974 as Shuggies third studio album. Then re-released in 2001 and finally re-released again in 2013 along with Wings Of Love. Side B Wings of love is a collective of unreleased studio and live recordings created from 1975-2000. The original release of Inspiration Information in 1974 was the most significant project of Otis career. The reasoning behind that statement is because this was the first album Shuggie was able to create as an adult and was able to oversee the album himself. Due to this change Otis began the use of analog drum machines which were used by few other artists at the time. It gave the album a very new and fresh Electric sound. This brings me right back to Jay-Zs original point. VINTAGE 70S KORG RHYTHM KR-33 ANALOG DRUM MACHINE Inspiration Information was in no way a great commercial success in 1974 peaking at 56 on the US Ramp;B chart. Luaka Bop a worldwide music-orientated record label re-released the album in 2001. This release allowed the album to receive its 30 years overdue recognition. Songs such as Aht Uh Mi Head XL-30 and Pling were just glimpses into the future only took 30 years to finally realize it. Kind of reminds me of an 808s and Heartbreaks type of album growth. Even if the music isnt for you you can still appreciate the artistry and attention to detail that was put forth on the album. Why Do I Consider Him A Legend? Shuggie is an artist that is well known for his independence. Over his career he has had countless offers to work with different bands and artists. The Rolling Stones had asked him to come on tour as their lead guitarist Otis declined. He also declined the opportunity to work on an album with the great Quincy Jones whos career has expanded over 60 years with 80 grammy nominations. Quincy Jones receiving his 28th Grammy Award for Best Music Film 2019 My point is that Shuggie never sold his soul. He never changed what he wanted to do. Not for money not for recognition not for anything. He never compromised his art thats true love and passion. Otis was able to create new sounds while continuing to stem from his roots in an era where you didnt see or hear anything like that BY HIMSELF. You dont have to be a Jazz or Ramp;B expert to be able to appreciate his music and identify his impact on the genre and artists to come. Conclusion. Shuggie Otis career is not a typical path artists travel while attempting to become a legend but in my eyes its the one that took him there. Otis music will live on forever and continue to be an inspiration and influence on future genres and artists to come. Jay-Z said that being an artist you have to have a certain knowing or belief in what you do. Shuggie Otis is 100 the definition of that and in my opinion is enough to solidify his greatness. I hope you enjoyed reading my post about Shuggie Otis and I hope that Ive put you on to something new and exciting! If you did check out Otis discography let me know what you think in the comments! Episode 15 Featuring Teremana on Bois & Bar Talk Podcast

We are drinking the newly released “Teremana” tequila from Dwayne Johnson aka The Rock for the Drink of the Week. Join us in this episode for some good laughs and insightful conversation.

According to oldtowntequila.com Teremana has notes of bright citrus with a smooth, fresh finish that we both agreed was an accurate description of this tequila.

Occasionally, we take a break from beer and enjoy some liquor like tequila or a fine wine while it is safe to say, we really enjoyed this one.

Nobody wins like The Rock. He can run for president if he wants to. He has charisma like no other person. It is no surprise to see The Rock tackling the liquor industry and starting off strong with Teremana Tequila.

We got into one of Kev’s rants early in the show. An unknown suspect struck Kev’s parked car on his own street. Kev was frustrated when he realized how time consuming an accident report is. Kev’s misfortune doesn’t stop there. For instance, rats have invested the basement and recording studio. In addition, the rats have been stealing Kev’s sunflower seeds and a half dozen of the rodents were found behind studio equipment. Luckily they did not do any damage to wires which they are notorious for doing. We will be recording rat free from now on heading into the home stretch of season 2.

We point out our own mistakes on this episode. Kev is trying to cut back on cursing. Similarly, Rob is trying to reduce phrases like “you know”, “like”, and “um” which we proved to be difficult when overthought. Bois & Bar Talk is actually a half hour long run on sentence.

We celebrate Rob’s 26th birthday. Kev had some interview style questions to ask about Rob’s life. As we started to run low on time we did lightning round questions! Where do you imagine yourself at 30? What is your favorite food? What is your favorite quarantine memory? Many other questions asked. It’s cool to reflect on life and just be happy to be here.

Cheers everyone,

Dark Lane Demo Tapes HD Review Bois Bar Talk

Dark Lane Demo Tapes HD Review Bois amp; Bar Talkhttps://boisandbartalk.com/2020/05/dark-lane-demo-tapes-hd-review/?utm_source=rssamp;utm_medium=rssamp;utm_campaign=dark-lane-demo-tapes-hd-review Dark Lane Demo Tapes HD Review Cover Art To Dark Lane Demo Tapes Im losing enough sleep dealing with envy and the news that they send for me got the block in a frenzy Deep Pockets Drake starts off Dark Lane Demo Tapes doing what he does best effortlessly floating on the intro Deep Pockets another collaboration accompanied by producer Noah 40 Shebib. Self-reflecting and reminiscing on adolescent aspirations before the transition of becoming one of the greatest artists of all time. Drake breaking the record for Most Wins in one night at the 2017 Billboard Music Awards Drake has been navigating through uncharted territory flawlessly. Proving this point yet again with his release of Toosie Slide. Drakes 3rd single to debut at 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart making him the first male in history to achieve this milestone. 500 mill and Ill fall back in the six finally give you n the space you need to exist -When To Say When Talk To em Drizzy Drake follows up with two pre-released tracks When To Say When amp; Chicago Freestyle. Jam packed with bars a sample from Song Cry by Jay-Z (one of my all time favorite Hov songs) on When To Say When and a nostalgic Eminem cadence reference on Chicago Freestyle. You really love to see Drizzy remind everyone on When To Say Whenthat his pen still outmatches all who oppose. Re-asserting his dominance as if it was ever in question. Subtle reminders like the bars above are what keep Drake and his competition completely separated. Two-thirty baby wont you meet me by The Bean? Too early maybe later you can showmethings You know whatit is whenever I visit Windy cityshe blowin me kisses no Thirty degrees way too cold so hold me tight Will I see you at the show tonight? Will I see you at the show tonight? -Chicago Freestyle Giveon a California native sings of the windy city as Drake gets ready to paint a picture of a night through his perception. From scrolling through his contacts of womens names that are seemingly categorized by area code to eventually just letting his boi Chubbs pick a girl out for him as if picking up women is as easy as shopping! Drake brilliantly segways into a memory that you forgot you had by referencing a cadence used in Eminems Superman released in 2002. Eminem and Drake. Picture: Instagram Dont be fooled by the feature credit of Chris Brown.we didnt get another No Guidance summer anthem. Just a few background vocals from the Ramp;B legend were enough to get his name on the project tracklist. Meanwhile Burna Boy is still waiting for his credits since More Life but thats a conversation for another day. Not You Too Featuring Chris Brown is the first song on the project that I really dont care for. Its disappointing when you see a Drake and Chris Brown collaboration and it doesnt slap.. What A Time To Be Alive is in my Top 3 favorite duo albums of all time. Whenever I see a Drake and Future collab I automatically get excited. Previously leaked Desires is everything you want in a slower more laid back vibe from these two. The hook is addicting. Futures verse is versatile with flows. His energy matches perfectly and his lyrics have SUBSTANCE. Listen to it carefully. Photo From Future Featuring Drake Life Is Good Drake has this ability to be able to sing 90 of the song take the other 10 completely spazz and musically still have it make sense. These are the moments in songs like Desires and Redemption that turn slow Ramp;B type vibe songs into a completely different entity within itself. Now all of a sudden youre turning up and talking your sht instead of staring at the ceiling crying yourself to sleep. When I hear Time Flies I automatically think of Tik Tok. I dont know why but if it blows up on Tik Tok you heard it here first! Honestly for me this is another skip it and forget it type of song I really hope it doesnt go viral. The first forty-five seconds is the only part of the song that kept my attention. Otherwise the rest is forgettable or just too similar to music that hes already done thus not really elevating his ability here. During a full listen to the song Im 100 paying attention during the first forty-five seconds. After that my attention doesnt come back until he starts saying Im Sorry. Dont worry Drizzy I forgive you. If he talkin out his head then its off with it yeah Boardin Air Drake then we takin off in it yeah -Landed Luckily Time Flies is followed by a HEATER. Three hooks and three verses of aggressive yet relaxed reckless bars knowing there isnt a consequence for you when youre at the top. Landed is a slick talk mean face making breakfast with the speaker on 10 with the neighbors calling the cops while youre trying to get hype for the day joint. I wanna stop writing this review get in my car windows down put this song on max volume and mean mug old people walking their dog in the suburbs for the rest of the day. At first listen I was super excited about D4L. The production from Southside is out of this world. I do feel like its lacking a certain element. Its easy to fall in love with a song featuring Drake Future and Young Thug with this type of production. To me it just doesnt sound organic. It sounds like it was thrown together rather than collectively created. Honestly I wish Drake and Future left Young Thug out of it sat down together and created a dope record. Kind of wasted a great instrumental. To be blunt Im just not impressed with Pain 1993. It could be the fact that Im not the biggest Playboi Carti fan or it could be just because the songs just not that interesting. Ive replayed Pain 1993 numerous times searching for something with depth or meaning because that accompanied with creative cadences and complex bars is the reason why I love Drakes music. This didnt do it for me. The intro to Losses is amazing. The song starts with a clip of Drakes father Dennis Graham previewing a song Dennis had been working on recently. It ends with Dennis saying something like This songs about family if anyone feel anyway about it I dont give a f classic. Its funny how you can listen to any Drake project and stumble upon a song that you personally arent really feeling. The next song is the exact song youre looking for. Self-reflection is my favorite type of Drake song because the untouchable becomes relatable and humbled. The second verse of Losses touches on Drakes motivation on why he does what he does I do it for the Grahams not the Gram. Then goes into depth about his sacrifices and choices that hes made over the years and defends his reasoning behind them. I did it by being myself with no dramatic acting I couldnt sit around and wait I had to have it happen Lost you to the game I gotta face that Really think I lost you like a ways back -Losses Drakes starts off From Florida With Love paying homage to the late Static Major who was well known for his appearance on Lil Waynes Lollipop. Otherwise the song is a dope story about Wayne showing Drake Lollipop back in 2008 on a tour bus with Kobe Bryant. (RIP) Then the story continues with Drake getting robbed for his chain and how that lesson stuck with him for life. Further justifying his reasoning for his mentality and how he handles certain situations. From that day I never touched the road without a (Plugg) Ayy from that day I never saw the point in talkin tough (Nah) Hasnt happened since I guess you n know whats up (Yup) Yeah havent seen the 6ix in like a month (6ix) F that Im back baby where the love? (Love) From Florida With Love VIRAL. MOVIE. Love to see Drake on some what I define as murder music. Type of music that just makes you wanna fight anybody anytime Drake absolutely BODIES the first verse but its a mere alley oop to Fivio Foriegn. Fivio Foriegn sounds like hes right at home on this one. His delivery is in your face lyrics are gritty his aggression is on another level. My only take back is Sosa Geeks verse just feels unnecessary. Or maybe I just really wish Pop Smoke was alive to clean this one up RIP. The final song on the project War was released around Christmas time 2019. The best part of this being the outro to the project is only that we can stream this song now. Despite being released months in advance it only became available on streaming services with this release. War is a song that is being recognized as UK Drill which obviously was created in the United Kingdom. This is just another example of how Drake can travel in and out of different genres and subgenres immaculately. Conclusion Overall the project is supposed to be perceived as a mixtape rather than an album. Drake is set to release a brand new studio album later this year. As a whole I enjoy the project Im trying to shy away from relating it to other albums because it technically isnt an album. Dark Lane Demo Tape isnt game changing but it will hold the world over until the real album drops. What was your favorite song on Dark Lane Demo Tape? Tell me what you guys think in the comments below! Thank you for reading my Dark Lane Demo Mixtape HD review. If you enjoyed this post check out boisandbartalk.com for more content from the bois! On Episode 14 we drink “OJ On Parole” made by Lock City Brewing Company out of Stamford, CT.

We talk about what we want to blog about with our new website boisandbartalk.com. Something we would like to write about is our infinite google loops that we get trapped in for hours. It would be cool to write about how one google search leads to another until it’s 4 AM and you’re wondering how did I get here?

We talked about cluttered emails and annoying newsletters that it seems like everybody markets today. You try to enter a website’s homepage and immediately get bombarded with a sign up sheet. Where do you draw the line with ads?

That brought us into conversation about social media influencers. Are they actually genuine or even passionate about what they do? We live in a trend where anybody can have tens of thousands of followers. When you have this kind of exposure you can capitalize this into profit almost instantly selling products on your posts and stories.

Somewhere along the line we started talking about Coyote Peterson and his Youtube wilderness series. We wonder if this kind of stuff is real. The guy gets stung by killer wasps and gets bit by snakes. We even seen this guy get pinched by a giant lobster. Is it all for views or is he actually trying to educate people?

Welcome to the World of Bois Bar Talk! Bois Bar Talk

Welcome to the World of Bois amp; Bar Talk! Bois amp; Bar Talkhttps://boisandbartalk.com/2020/04/welcome-to-the-world-of-bois-bar-talk/?utm_source=rssamp;utm_medium=rssamp;utm_campaign=welcome-to-the-world-of-bois-bar-talk Welcome to the World of Bois amp; Bar Talk! I thought it would a good idea to you know actually make a welcome post here. Currently Kev amp; I are working hard on this new site. Were building it from the ground up ourselves and were pretty excited about it! Yeah we could have hired somebody to build it but whats the fun in that? Plus Im picking up new skills left and right and embracing the challenge. My goal is to stay productive during quarantine here in Connecticut. I want to come out of this never ending snow day (at least thats what it feels like) with concrete things accomplished. I started to feel as if I shouldnt be taking my free time for granted. This led us to take the step to elevate Bois amp; Bar Talk into something better. Kev amp; I mainly used Instagram and Twitter to promote our podcast. You can find us posting one minute clips like this. View this post on Instagram Episode 12: Neptunes Dagger (part 1) is live. We have all the links to listen in our profile (Apple/Spotify etc). This was supposed to be about music and the Instagram Bill Clinton album trend. We got a little side tracked along the way with bagel talk here. boisandbartalk ctbeer craftbeer billclinton instagramtrends A post shared by Podcast (@boisandbartalk) on Apr 24 2020 at 9:53am PDT This is a great way to engage with you and we love to talk to people on social media. We like having a website for a couple of reasons. First of all we dont ONLY want to podcast. We both have an interest in blogging. The new site gives us the ability to write about whatever we want (since we were never good at sticking to a niche). Blogging gives us an exciting new way to express ourselves and compliments the podcast well! Second of all the site gives you easy accessibility and navigation to anything we create including the podcast. Having a contact form is great too and we would love feedback and your suggestions (including ideas for the show and website)! We still have some work to do on here. But feel free to check out the About Us tab if youre new and find out more about how we started doing this whole brand thing in the first place! If youre interested in checking out the show we put some subscribe buttons on the home page. If you arent new you probably already know how much we love you and your support anyway. Anyways cheers to that.Stay safe Rob Marini
